| | Ani | ] | Saturday from Telelink didn't happen this weekend because it was SO BUSY! Very strange! It was like the whole city went crazy or something.
You know what else is crazy? MY SCHEDULE! Man. I thought that by not doing volleyball nor MUNSU this semester i'd be giving myself a little extra free time, but free time is something I havn't seen in quite a long while.
I did get to sit down and get my hair done today though, so that was pretty relaxing. I needed it done, I was becoming one huge fuzzball.

Yes and No... (Yeah, i'm a bit bored)
Try not to explain ANYTHING unless someone messages or comments you and asks. The temptation to explain some of these might be overwhelming, but explaining will take the fun out of it. Nothing is exactly as it seems.
Now, here's what you're supposed to do. . . Copy and paste this into your notes, delete my answers, type in your answers and tag your friends who you think will answer or be entertained.

[Jun. 29th, 2009|08:06 pm] |
I am doing full time courses this summer, but half way through 2 of them end and 2 new ones begin (today was the first day for those two classes) and the first six weeks is classified as a semester onto itself, so... THAT MEANS I JUST GOT MY FIRST 4.0 EVER!!!!!!

| Saturday at work. |
[May. 23rd, 2009|12:06 pm] |
I'm here at work from 10am until 7pm today. One of those infamous kaplan shifts, where all you do is listen to people who are too lazy to follow the prompts and press the correct buttons, and then just transfer them to the department they could have easily arrived at by themselves. The calls are few and far between, so I feel like a complete waste of time and space right now. Not that i'm complaining, I mean if they want to pay me to sit down and post to livejournal, i'm all for that!
Since arriving at work 2 hours and 14 minutes ago i've read over 50 pages of "JPod" and stood in front of the vending machine for 5 minutes trying to deciede between ketchup or all dressed chips. I went for ketchup, but didn't much feel like eating any.
I guess I should give mom a call sometime today. If she found that I sat around doing absolutely nothing for 9 hours and didn't give her a shout she wouldn't be too impressed.
I should probably get a headstart on some of my school assingments due next week as well. |

| Painting! |
[May. 14th, 2009|10:11 pm] |
This afternoon I've been working on activities and examples for my art class. One such example is quite simple and is already done, the other I am in the middle of working on.
The one i'm in the middle of working on is actually my first real painting. I still have to fix it up a little, complete the black background, and then paint words along the side... but so far i'm kinda impresed with myself :)
In this photo you can see the work in progress, and the image of myself that it is based on. The two images don't really look alike... so i'll be claiming an abstract look ;)

I'm not looking forward to putting the words on it, but it's part of the lesson theme that i've created, so it has to be done. |

Last night I painted it purple, this morning I spent around 3 hours mod-podging all of the images together, and now all I have to do is seal it :)

[Apr. 27th, 2009|10:59 pm] |
I'm here cutting up the last of the images to be podged onto my desk, listening to music, and drinking tea. It's a nice calm evening.
Stacey and I went to Catalina last night, just got back into the city a couple hours ago. These past few days have been beautiful and it was great to get back out on the road. We actually had some good times together. Stacey's older sister and I went out for a boot on her quad, a bunch of us got together for a bbq, and Stacey and I took a mini-trip over to Bonavista to see some iceburgs. Her family knows we've broken up, but seems to be happy that we're still friends. It was just... *nice* to have some non-stressful, chilled out, fun times with Stacey again.
We're now into packing week though. It already feels a bit strange to be leaving here.
I got my marks back today, and was quite happy with them!
- Psychology of Gender: 83%. I was hoping for a bit of a better mark (seeing as how I went into the exam with a 91%) but I know I didn't do too well on this final exam. Overall i'm very happy with an A in any psychology course, as I am told they are hard to come by.
- French Drama/Literature: 80%. Very happy with this! I actually had to ask for an extension on my disertation for this course, and he granted it because he thought of me as "a serious student".
- French Grammar & Textual Analysis: 77%. Also very happy with this, a B+ is definitly good for a third year advanced French course.
- Francophone Cultures: 76%. Meh. I really thought I would do better in this course, so i'm going to go see her about it. Still though, 76% isn't too bad.
With a semester average of 79%, my conditional faculty acceptance will definitly go ahead. Bachelor of Education, here I come :) |

| I must be dreaming or... we're onto something |
[Apr. 21st, 2009|09:08 am] |
In just a few minutes i'll be leaving to go for a walk around long pond with my sister. We went yesterday morning as well and it was quite enjoyable. Summer seems to be just around the corner and I can't wait, it's suppost to be 10 degrees C here tomorrow :)
So I wrote an email to the scheduling woman at work last week. I told her that on May 11th i'll be starting my program and can only work one shift per week, either a Saturday or Sunday, after that date. I just finished all my final exams last week and I now have three weeks off, meaning I can get some extra hours in at work, and what am I scheduled for next week? One day! :P I do need the money, but I also need a bit of a break, so i'm just going to mention that i'll be free in case anyone calls in sick. In the meantime, I have tons of free time during the next 3 weeks... what should I do with it?
I'm going to Gambo this evening, just for one night. I'm looking forward to the three hour drive all by myself more than anything, but mom will be happy to have me home, and that's usually pretty good in low doses.
I'll be spending some time packing and getting ready for the move (although I don't have a heck of a lot of stuff). I have to go book the uhaul today. I offered to drive, but big trucks arn't really my thing, and Lindsey then said she would actually love to do the driving, so that worked out quite well. April 30th looks like our move date!
In the rest of my free time i'll be finishing my latest crafty project. I've had this old desk for a few months now, and I have been cutting out cool images from random art magazzines these past few weeks. I'm going to mod podge them all to the desk, paint it over with gloss sealer, then paint the rest of the desk (probably blue or green).
I don't yet have quite enough images to cover the whole desk yet, but I will after tomorrow...

Has anyone ever heard of the band "Frou frou"? Melanie recently introduced me to them (even though I think the lead singer is now going the solo route) and I think they're amazing! I have to say, Melanie's quite good at suggesting songs/bands that i'd like :) |

| Some dance to remember, some dance to forget. |
[Apr. 10th, 2009|03:21 pm] |
Right. I'm back at our apartment on Merrymeeting for now, I'm surrounded by art magazines, a new journal, a bag of thread & needles, a brand new book, and my laptop... guess who's not started on her studying yet?
Last Thursday I decided to take off for a week. A lot of things had been going on and I needed to get out. I spent 4 nights at Roxanne's new apartment and then 2 nights at katie's dad's place with her while she was house-sitting. Getting some time away helped to give me a little bit of perspective, and it's been a few days since I last cried.
I'm officially moving out at the end of the month. Two of my friends, Pam and Lindsey, and I have found a neat small 3 bedroom apartment right across the road from the university! It's generally hard to find places close to campus, so we were surprised that this one was as economical as it was, regardless of the size... but everything seems to be working out well. We've been chatting with both the current tennents and the landlord. Two of my major wishes have been met - the ability to paint & do our own decorating, and good outdoor space! The backyard is really pretty, with tall trees, backing onto a small forested area (keeping mind that it's still in the middle of the city). It has hardwood floors and a small storage room with a washer/dryer. The kitchen/living room is in one small area, with all three bedrooms and the bathroom off of that area. It's your typical student living arrangement, which fits as we're all students, and we're gonna make it look cozy and funky. I'm actually really excited.
And I am very pumped about being accepted into the faculty of education. I didn't think my marks were going to be good enough... but I still think it must have been my (3 page) personal statement that did it. I wrote it so they couldn't NOT accept me. (When I put my mind to it, I can sometimes mix a stunning concoction of words). Add a year of previous teaching experience and I guess my marks didn't really matter.
However... I am going into exams THIS semester with three A's and one B, my psychology mark standing at a 91%. I start my next semester on May 11th - six courses! I am aiming for the highest marks I can get becuase I want to leave my options open for possible grad school adventures.
I'm happy about doing much better this year than I ever have done in university previously, and I know that it's partically due to Stacey's influence. She has an amazing work ethic and hasn't missed a class in three years... I guess some of that has rubbed off on me. Despite everything that's been going on, I still love her more than anything. We're working towards being best friends, and I think i'm getting closer to accepting that. We both have so many things to figgure out. |

I've been so busy lately, where to start...
Work is going well. They've been scheduling me for more hours than I want, but next week looks decent. I've only just become totally comfortable with all the accounts in messaging, and then they go and decide to train me on tourism. But i'm happy with that, I wanted to work on tourism since the beginning, and I get first dibs cuz they need people who can speak French pretend to speak French.
I feel like I am starting to get behind in my school work, but so far it's been okay. I got 97% on my first Francophone cultures comprehension excersize, so that was cool. I have a 15 minute presentation to do tomorrow in that class, and a test in French 3100 that I have not yet begun to study for. :0
I drove a standard car for the first time EVER yesterday! It was soooo fun! I got home from work around 4:00 and Iris was there soon after to pick me up for some grocery shopping. When she got here she said i'd be driving part of the way (once we got out of the downtownish area). Woo! So I get in the car, start her up fine, switch gears like a pro, and drive for around 5 minute with no glitches! When I pulled over to let Iris drive again she wouldn't believe me that I had never driven a standard before, she couldn't get over the fact that I didn't stall out at all!
But... after she parked the car, we got our groceries and came back out to the car, she had the unfortunate idea to let me drive the car right out of the parking lot. (She was overconfident in me after my first showing, lol). I couldn't even get 3 feet out of the space without stalling it. I tried to press down on the gas while taking my foot off the clutch, but the car just didn't like it and sent us into this crazy shaking movement... and all I could do was laugh my ass off! I don't know why, but I found it hilarious. I tried again, and the same thing happened. So Iris and I jumped out switched spots, with the car hanging 3 or 4 feet out of the space, blocking part of that lane. Heehee.
I can't wait to get out and try again! Not in a parking lot though! |

[Feb. 2nd, 2009|10:18 am] |
The psychology course that i'm doing via distance is ridiculous!
It's a course in Gender Identity and Sex Roles, and I figgured I would find the subject interesting. I got a head start on the readings and did activity 1 the first day it came out. It's all online, there are no on-campus classes, so we have to communicate using the website and the dicussion forums.
Activity 1 was kinda lame. It was one of those online surveys to determine whether or not you have any tendancies towards sexism. (And the survey itself was VERY heterosexist!) After taking the survery you have to post your score and discuss. In the class of around 70 people, there were maybe 10 of us who were discussing a little, but everyone else left it to the last minute and then just posted a couple words, or just wrote something they pulled from the textbook. The prof never did comment on any of our discussions, and two days after the activity was closed she posted the marks. I got 100%, but so did everyone else who even wrote two words on the board.
A couple weeks ago i'm reading the text book and I come accross something that I need clarified, so on Jan 19th I posted a question. A legitimate question, not like all the other crap from people not knowing what's going on becuase they couldn't be arsed to read the info page. But the prof STILL hasn't answered my question, 14 days later!
And then yesterday I did activity 2. There were two links that we had to visit, an article from cbc.ca, and a youtube link. The youtube link was broken, and a few days ago someone posted on the general board that there was a problem with it, so that's why I waited a few days to complete the activity, but nothing was done about it, so I did the activity anyway (as others had been doing). The article was interesting enough, and we had to complete 2 questions on it and then post our answers/thoughts to the discussion board. (Yeah, a whole whoppin' 2 multiple choice questions, don't strain yourself folks!). The questions were messed up, with what seemed like incorrect figgures and ambiguous choices. I was not impressed.
So I posted my thoughts to the matter at hand, and then spoke a little at the end about how the quiz was messed up, and the link was broken. Well, all of a sudden the prof appears and writes me a snarky response about how the numbers were not in fact wrong (as it turns out she was right, but there was NO WAY we could have known that based on what we read, she had extra info), and that the name of the youtube video was such and such. Not even an apology that it was a broken link for days and people have ALREADY finished the activity without it. WHAT A BITCH!
Oh, and she didn't even take the time to respond to my legitimate question about chapter 3.
I am so going to the dept of distance education at MUN to file a report. This is stupid. |

| Snowswirls and... white blood cells? Sure, we'll go with that. |
[Jan. 23rd, 2009|10:30 am] |
I must have developped a pretty good immune system, becuase save for a couple allergy attacks, I have not been sick since I left Quebec 9 months ago! While I was living in Quebec it was a different story, every month I had to take time off work for the flu, or gastro, or the fucking CHICKEN POX... but ever since I took in that Newfie air i've been virus free!
Well, that's sorta up until now though... I kinda feel like I am going to get a cold, but my body is fighting it, so I don't feel like total shit, and it might just go away by itself. *Crosses fingers* I really can't afford to get sick right now. Go immune system Go!
I had plans to go out this morning, deal with student loans, pick up Melanie and Amy and make some sandwiches, and then go to a meeting... but there's white out conditions today, my throat is doing some fucky shit to my voice, and I really just needed to stay in today. I did drive Stacey to school, but then I was afraid to drive home again. You could barely see 2 feet in front of you and everyone was slipping and sliding on the roads! I literally had to stop and wait on a busy road becuase I couldn't see anything through the blowing snow. I was trying to turn left and I couldn't see the road I was turning onto. I was so afraid someone was gonna bang into me! I hate winter!
If this had been in Quebec, everything would have been shut down, but not in Newfoundland. I don't get it though, the weather is actually more severe in Quebec (at least where I was living), definitly WAY colder... but they shut down for far less weather than they do here.
Anyway. Yesterday was a busy day for me, but I loved going to all of my classes! I had a French 3100 test in the morning and I think I did really well on it. Then I went to my Francophone Cultures class, where we had to watch a clip of a French documentary on Morocco and then answer a bunch of questions on it, which was pretty interesting. I love the discussions we have in that class :) Then in my French literature/drama class the prof (who I think is great but gives us WAY too much work to do) talked to us about the upcoming annual francophone festival here in St. John's and how he is looking for 5 or 6 volunteers to do a re-enactement of the play that we're reading in class now... and I signed up! I love that kinda shit! There wasn't enough people interested so we might need to work with only 3 or 4 people, but still, yay!
... ugh, my throat hurts. |

[Jan. 12th, 2009|09:18 pm] |
I made a simple discovery while doing homework today that really tickled me!
In "Le Bourgeios gentilhomme", there is a line that says "tout ce que n'est point prose est vers" and one of our assignments was to look up the difference between the words prose and vers. So I got out my "Le Petit Robert" (which is not petit at all), and in the definition of prose, there was that same exact quote from the play I was reading! How cool is that? It made my day, and I am going to speak of my findings in class tomorrow :)
I'm such a dork. |

| Snow and automobiles. |
[Jan. 12th, 2009|10:49 am] |
Stacey and I were out and about last night, she bought a bookshelf and then we went to get groceries, and the weather was really nice. Not too much snow on the ground and the roads were clear. We wake up this morning and there was TONS of snow on the go! Nothing major like snow banks over houses or anything (living here you get to know what that's like)... but just enough snow to require both Stacey and I to shovel out the car so we could get her to school on time. I'm not really sure why I parked on the road last night, but I did.
Anyway, I got home from dropping Stacey off and of course someone had taken my shoveled out spot on the road, and there were no more spots around the house, and the driveway was snowed in. So I parked the car on the side where there was no parking allowed, put my 4 way lights on, and started shoveling out my driveway. But then one of my neighbours, who had a snowblower, saw me and came to help me out! What a sweetheart! It took all of 5 minutes between him and I! I parked my car in the driveway and then went accross the street to help some old man dig out his car.
I think massive amounts of snow is one of the things that really brings people together around here. On any normal day there's no reason to be outside of your house conversing with your neighbours, but when everyone's outside shoveling snow, you get to meet the people who you've never met before, even though they live just next door.
:)
...So yeah, my car did get fixed afterwards. The dude from the garage called me back and said he had found me a part for $200 instead of the original $400. And my sister, who gets tons of money working as a customs agent for Canadian Border Services (while only really sitting around on her butt for most of the shift waiting for flights to get in) gave me $95 to help pay for it, so I was able to gather together enough money. On the morning that I called Iris to ask her for a ride to work, she offered to come pick me up from work as well, and when I got out of the car at home she was on her way to work but she gave me a folded up piece of paper and said to read it when I got inside... and here was $95 wrapped up in a note saying that I owe her a really good birthday gift this year. Haha. I should be getting paid tomorrow, so Stacey and I are gonna take her out to see a movie becuase we have some 2 for 1 coupons :)
This is only the second week of classes but I have SO MUCH school work to do! I have to end this here and get to my French grammar books! |

| Blah today. |
[Jan. 10th, 2009|01:47 pm] |
I'm at work, eating a microwave dinner that is kinda yucky.
I got my first French call today. Overall the call went fine but there was one word that I wasn't quite sure of so I asked her to explain it to me, and it turns out she was talking about a safe... like a safe you put money in... and I felt like a total newb. Ah well. Now I know what it means. |
